Yugen Series - No 116
You said:
Part of the Yugen series, this sculptural wall diptych explores the intersection of movement, material, and mystery. Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of Yugen—a concept rooted in subtlety, depth, and the unseen—the work captures a gesture in motion, suspended across two clay panels.
Poured and brushed clay slip forms the foundation, layered with sweeping strokes of metallic glaze. The glaze behaves like ink on a scroll—explosive, fluid, and alive—revealing complex textures where it pools, thins, and fractures. At the center, a powerful arc surges outward, balanced by splatter and sharp lines that radiate with force and intention.
This piece is meant to shift with the light, revealing new facets throughout the day. It invites pause and reflection—its duality of control and spontaneity offering a space to simply be with the unknown.
