Enso - No 112
Part of an ongoing material exploration, Enzo 112 is a mounted porcelain slip painting rooted in gesture and impermanence. The composition begins on a 100lb plaster bat, where liquid porcelain is poured, brushed, and layered to create a rich surface. A single, bold gesture of metallic glaze sweeps across the field of white slip—an echo of the Zen ensō, a symbol of unity, presence, and the beauty of imperfection.
The process is both delicate and immediate. Once the slip reaches leather-hard consistency, the entire surface is carefully lifted from the plaster and fired, capturing the energy of the moment in clay. Mounted to wood surfaced with gold paint, the final piece bridges painting and sculpture—ephemeral motion preserved in permanent form.
