"Shard"
Sister piece to Moon, Shard explores the merging and fracturing of two contrasting clay bodies. The form holds both tension and harmony, where jagged edges meet sweeping gestures. Its dark, heavily textured surface is interrupted by a wave of white clay—a physical record of materials in conflict. Their differing properties create subtle strain, generating movement and instability, and capturing a fragile equilibrium between breaking apart and holding together.
This sculpture speaks to the beauty found in contrast—strength and fragility, movement and stillness, creation and collapse. The dynamic interplay between these opposing forces captures a moment of suspended energy, evoking the natural cycles of destruction and renewal.
