"Rain"
Back in 2012, I embarked on a ceramics tour in Japan, where I had the pleasure of being introduced to the work of Hiroshi Senju, a contemporary Japanese painter renowned for his large-scale monochromatic depictions of waterfalls. His ability to capture the serene yet powerful essence of flowing water left a profound impression on me.
This piece is dedicated to his work. Crafted from clay, it features a semi-circular form with an uneven, textured interior that mimics the cascading patterns of a waterfall. The grooves and ridges within the sculpture, highlighted by clay slips, create a sense of movement and depth, reflecting the dynamic essence of flowing water in a static medium.
